Helen O'Leary C2C Memorial Cycle 2008
Atlantic to Irish Sea Cycle - Galway to Howth - June Bank Holiday 2008 (June 2nd.)
Think of a terminally ill child who will be spending long periods in Our Lady's Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and think of the dedicated doctors and research staff who are giving that child's family the hope that that their child will survive, by working towards a cure for his/her illness. Maybe you might also turn your thoughts to those men and women who give their time and effort to raising the much needed funding which allows this great work to continue. Eugene O'Leary, whose daughter Helen was a patient of Our Lady's Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, for the greater part of her life, will be doing a 155 mile fundraising cycle on June Bank Holiday 2008, from Galway to Howth (Atlantic to Irish Sea) with the aim of raising a substantial amount of funding for the Medical & Research Foundation of Our Lady’s. He is organising the event with the full support of the Foundation. He will depart from Galway docks at 8 a.m. and would hope to arrive at the East Pier, Howth, at 8 p.m. Support along the route in the form of collectors, supporters, etc. is essential if the event is to be a success. Can you help with the promotion of the event? Can you give up an hour on June Bank Holiday Monday and cycle for part of the route with him; especially for the last couple of miles? All are welcome and encouraged. Can you fill a sponsorship card while doing your Bank Holiday shopping? Can you throw the price of that last pint that you do not really need into one of our collection buckets? Would you consider dropping into a few shops and pubs along the route with a collection bucket? Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, is one of the largest hospitals in the world devoted exclusively to children. There are approximately 100,000 child attendances at the hospital annually. It is the National Referral Centre for children who are suffering from serious illness such as, Cancer, Leukemia, Spina Bifida, and Cystic Fibrosis. The Children’s Research Centre at the Hospital was founded in 1965. Since then, its contribution to medical research has meant that our children can look forward to a brighter future. Break-throughs have occurred in many areas of the Centre’s research to date, some of major consequences worldwide. So come on out on June 2nd. 2008 and support a great cause. Your reward will be that great feeling of self worth and happiness over the June Bank Holiday period, knowing how much your sacrifice of a few hours of your time will have done for so many ill children.
